Abstract: After an introduction about the significance of SO$_{3}$ splitting in process cycles for thermal water splitting, the tack of the calculation of a tube reactor for the thermal- splitting of SO$_{3}$ into SO$_{2}$ and O$_{2}$ in a SO$_{3}$/H$_{2}$O mixture is defined under heat engineering aspects. This is then followed bystatements on the thermodynamic data of the gases concerned and on the thermodynamic equilibrium in the H$_{2}$SO$_{4}$/SO$_{3}$/SO$_{2}$/O$_{2}$/H$_{2}$O system. Details of the preconditions employed in caiculating the tube reactor under heat engineeringaspects and the reaction conditions assumed precede a description of the calculation procedure. The results are presented in the form of tables and graphs The appended programme lists enable caIculations to be carried out for other reaction conditions.
